The IGA chain of independently owned supermarkets is continuing to rollout new stores, and rebadge Franklins outlets following the group’s acquisition last year.

A brand new Supa IGA has opened at Wetherill Park Shopping Centre, replacing the former Franklins store at the site.

The supermarket received a signage and banner change, as well as an extensive facelift, and re-opened in August under the ownership and operation of brothers Andrew and Paros Haridemos.

The 1,700 square metre supermarket underwent a complete upgrade over a three week period, receiving an overhaul to the design of the supermarket and its range, which has bought an improved offer to meet the needs of the local residents.

IGA retail consultant for Western Sydney, Andrew Buik ,said “I am delighted to see locals excited about the rejuvenation of the supermarket and the new range that Andrew and Paros are currently driving in the store, which specifically considers the local demographic.

“Both have had a long standing association with IGA. They are very strong retailers and have brought many years of experience to their new store.”

Another Franklins replacement, an IGA supermarket will open in Thirroul, New South Wales, on 11 September. The re-branded store is owned by Bulli local David Hoade, who was with Franklins and other supermarket groups for 18 years.

Hoade said “Customers will be offered more choice and convenience with an increased product range that will include their favourite brands and the store will also be keeping many of the No Frills products on range at the same competitive prices.

“We will also offer enhanced services including a loyalty club, a fuel price offer, a seniors discount shopping day, and in the near future an online shopping service with a pick-up or home delivery option.”

Boutique relaunch

Hastings Co-op Supa IGA Timbertown has transformed into a boutique supermarket, stocking more regional produce and a greater range of healthy-living and locally sourced products.

The supermarket  launched The Hastings Co-op’s Health and Wellness Timbertown Country Grocer event to introduce the store’s new-look and direction, which focuses on supporting local producers and providing healthy, fresh food options for its customers.

A local chef was also on-site to provide other helpful meal, food and gourmet suggestions for the health conscious.

Chief restructuring officer, Alyson Ogilvie-Lee, said there is a long list of local producers keen to participate in the transformation.

She said, “We are now stocking local produce with a special emphasis on gluten-free and wheat-free products.

“Our overall plan is to create a supermarket that contains approximately 50 per cent of more local and healthy choices.  Our contribution is catering to the wellness of the community,” she added.

Marketing Manager, Tim Walker, said the boutique supermarket was an excellent opportunity for local producers.

“It is a great opportunity for these producers to have exposure to the broader markets, which normally they would not have access to.  We are certainly looking to expand our level of support to quality local producers.”
