When IGA held its Retailer of the Year Awards for 2012, supermarkets in Queensland and South Australia had a winning streak.

The Queensland IGA supermarkets won eight awards, including Brad Hopper's Greenslopes store wining Retailer of the Year, while South Australian stores scooped seven awards, including the Sustainable Store of the Year Award which went to Fairview Park Foodland IGA.

IGA's national board chairman Mark Crutcher said "IGA is passionate about the quality of the service, products and grocery shopping experience. The 2012 awards certainly raised the bar in Australian supermarket standards.

"It is great that the smaller states of Queensland and South Australia dominated the awards, especially with South Australian Roger Drake [pictured left] being admitted to the IGA Hall of Fame," he added.

The standout individual store in the awards was the Joondalup, Western Australia, outlet Sisters Supa IGA, run by Cate and Peter Brodie. The supermarket won the following awards: Supa IGA and National Retailer of the Year, Supa IGA Produce Department of the Year, Supa IGA Grocery Department of the Year and Supa IGA Service Department of the Year.

Peter Brodie said "We were delighted to be recognised by IGA in the awards, as the competition was tough with very high standards reached by all the finalists."
