IGA announces plans to support Queensland flood victims

From Monday 4 March the country’s 1,400 IGA supermarket owners and their customers will take part in a three week national drive to raise funds for victims of the Queensland floods.

Over the course of the three week period a number of food items will be marked with the tagline “buy this product and support Queensland.”

A percentage of sales from these products will be used to support communities affected by the floods.

Roz White, chair, Queensland IGA Board, said “the independent owners of IGA stores across Australia have answered our call to band together and assist those communities hit hard by the recent floods.”

“IGA owners and their staff are part of the communities in which their stores are located and they empathise with the victims of the devastating floods,” she said.

White is pleased that there are so many people interested in taking part in the fundraising drive, which will see them donate dry and fresh groceries.

“The disappointing level of donations so far has struck a chord with the IGA family and they all wanted to pitch in and fill the void with their own program,” she said.

White is thankful to the IGA owners and their customers who choose to take part in the cause.

“There are many IGA stores located in the flood affected areas and so the owners, customers and staff know first hand the effects of this devastation.”

“On behalf of the Queensland stores, we thank the other IGA’s and IGA customers around Australia for getting involved,” she said.

Information about how customers can contribute to the drive will be communicated through catalogues, specially marked products and point of sale.
