Doughnuts take off at Brisbane

Travellers going overseas from Brisbane can now indulge in fresh doughnuts and treats at the first airport-based Donut King franchise. Donut King is operating at departures on Level 4 of the International Terminal, in the newly-renovated food court.

Franchisee Greg Holmes said the store was a step in a new direction for Donut King. “Traditionally Donut King stores have only been located in shopping centres, but we felt there was a real demand at the airport. So far the response from travellers has been great. We expect to make up to 2,000 doughnuts a week. And we not only offer fresh doughnuts, but also gourmet hotdogs, soft-serve ice cream, espresso coffees and other refreshingly cool drinks.”

While shopping centre food courts remain a focus Donut King is looking for additional high traffic volume locations for further store openings.

The brand operates more than 300 stores across Australia, employing over 4,600 staff and serving 30 million doughnuts to Australians every year. It is part of Retail Food Group Limited (RFG), the intellectual property owner and manager of the Donut King, bbÕs cafe, BrumbyÕs Bakeries and MichelÕs Patisseries franchise systems.
