A 52 year-old Australia Post franchisee has been charged with stealing a number of gift vouchers from their intended recipients, and redeeming them at Sydney stores, Inside Retailing has reported.

An investigation into the matter was launched in July when an envelope containing a number of gift cards, intended for a Bondi resident, went missing.

CCTV footage showed the offenders redeeming the vouchers at a supermarket and liquor store in the Sydney suburb of Buwood. Police were informed and the female franchisee and a 58 year-old man were arrested on Tuesday, 15 September.

Police found a number of other gift vouchers, intended for other people and sent through Australia Post, on the woman when she was arrested.

The franchisee has been charged with seven counts of obstructing the delivery of post items and tampering with them. She was granted conditional bail and will appear in court on 21 October.
