Subway set for overhaul

Is global sandwich chain Subway about to get a big makeover?

The fast food franchise, which has recently been plagued by declining sales and a scandal involving its former spokesman Jarden Fogle, will undergo its biggest revamp over seven years, according to the NY Post.

Not only are sales in the US declining but Subway continues to see its popularity dip, too, dropping to third place as the preferred fast food franchise .

Here’s how Subway plans to revamp its brand:

Redesigning stores

Instead of opening new stores, Subway plans on redesigning its existing units. Potentially, new uniforms for workers, POS systems and furniture will be overhauled. Worldwide Subway has more than 40,000 locations, giving the chain a bigger footprint than McDonald’s.

Overhauling the menu

Two decades ago, Subway arguably reinvented the idea of “fresh” fast food. But while Subway stayed the same, more forward-thinking competitors burst into the scene and have shifted the concept of what makes a fast food franchise – or any outlet for that matter – relevant in the times.
