McDonald’s franchisees in Queensland’s Albion have been recognised as amongst the company’s best operators, winning its most prestigious international award – the Golden Arch Award.

Mike and Jan Bolton own and operate five McDonald’s restaurants, including the Albion restaurant on the corner of Sandgate and Crosby roads. They now join a select few Australian licensees to be presented with the award, which, based on contribution to the community and restaurant business success, recognises the top one per cent of McDonald’s operators around the world.

Newly appointed managing director and CEO of McDonald’s Australia, Catriona Noble, said Very few people in the McDonald’s global network achieve this award, let alone Australian licensees. Their commitment to their local community is exemplary, their business knowledge outstanding and as a business couple, they are second to none. Everyone at McDonald’s Australia is very proud of their achievement.

Mike and Jan attended the McDonald’s Awards Ceremony during the Worldwide Convention in Orlando, where they were presented with the award in front of more than 14,000 employees and licensees.

After working for the fast food franchise for 25 years, including in the role of Queensland regional manager, Mike became a franchisee four and a half years ago. Since then, he and Jan have received a number of awards including the 2008/09 National People Excellence Award, 2008 National Golden Spatula Award and the 2008 Regional Outstanding Restaurant Award.

For each of their five franchise, the couple have attained Triple A operating grades, McDonald’s highest ranking for a restaurant’s results, quality and general operation.

Mike is also heavily involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities, serving as Chairman of the Brisbane Board for three years and recently joining the National Board.
