Melbourne based bakery franchise Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses took out the Novelty Cake – Themed Easter and Mud Cake, Decorated categories at the Victorian Baking Show on 22-23 February.

The company’s decorated cake creations were chosen ahead of more than 300 entries, and more than 50 bakeries across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania took part in the two-day event.

Ferguson Plarre’s decorating room manager, Maria Cerra was responsible for the award-winning Easter themed novelty cake, which was judged on creativity and skill.

The cake pays homage to rabbit characters that feature across film and print, including children’s stories and fairy tales.

According to Ferguson Plarre’s CEO Steve Plarre, the awards are testament to the company’s high calibre product offering, as well as the skill of its employees.

“The quality of our product has always been paramount – not only the best taste and best ingredients – but the best presentation,” he said.

“This award is a testament to the team’s attention to the design and detail in our products.”

The bakery franchise’s chocolate gateau and banana bread both received a third place ribbon at the show, and its fruit flan took out second place.

Ferguson Plarre’s two most recent wins bring its total number of first place awards at both a state and national level to nearly 30 over the past 20 years.
