Zambrero Plate record 2025

Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate Day smashes records to pack one million meals

There’s a mission driving the Zambrero business that’s winning hearts and minds, and providing meals for vulnerable communities. The focal point is the annual Plate 4 Plate Day, an action-packed initiative that unites Zambrero’s franchisees, restaurant teams, head office and the wider community to pack meals for distribution overseas.

In 2025 more than 3000 volunteers across Australia helped the fast-food chain accomplish its mission to pack one million meals – the final tally was an impressive 1,033,364 meals assembled.

Plate 4 Plate was started by Zambrero’s founder, Dr Sam Prince. For every burrito, bowl, Kids Zam Box or retail item purchased, Zambrero donates a meal to those in need.

In partnership with charities including Rise Against Hunger, Love Mercy and Foodbank, Zambrero is able to deliver these meals to people facing food insecurity around the world, such as the Philippines, South Africa and right here in Australia.

It’s an initiative with huge impact, not just on those communities receiving the meals. For many franchisees getting hands-on in the packing hubs alongside their teams and peers is one of the most meaningful days in their business calendar.

And it’s an opportunity for customers to show support for the cause too. This year long-time Zam Fam and first-time helpers were putting their goodwill into action.

NRL club Cronulla Sharks mobilised their own team, volunteers, and staff to participate in the packing event in Sydney, showing that in addition to a charitable day, Plate 4 Plate is a community-building opportunity for brands aligned with Zambrero’s mission.

Doubling-down on the donations, Zambrero restaurants this year matched the donations on all qualifying customer purchases, adding more than 92,000 meals to the final tally.

All in a good cause, Plate 4 Plate delivers franchise benefits

Of course, while the result was historic, scaling a million-meal event comes with operational challenges.

Co-ordinating logistics across multiple sites, training volunteers, and managing the packing and distribution supply chains is no small feat. But behind the scenes, as it overcomes each challenge, Zambrero refines its processes and strengthens its partnerships.

Each year the day delivers on its corporate social responsibility goals, and affirms for franchisees why they partnered with Zambrero in the first place: to run a business that gives back.

Some franchisees have even joined the business because of the initiative. It’s a way for the brand to attract like-minded franchisees who place value on more than profit. In a crowded quick-service restaurant sector, Zambrero’s mission-driven approach helps it stand out.

The Plate 4 Plate initiative serves to boost employee engagement too, with volunteers from restaurants and head office teaming up alongside franchisees on a mission to meet the meal-packing target.

This effort was also recently recognised by the QSR Media industry giving Zambrero the much-deserved 2025 Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative Award.

An initiative with impact

The 2025 event has proven that Zambrero can scale these packing events globally (10 locations), which has reinforced the global franchise model’s strength.

So what will Plate 4 Plate Day look like in 2026? Could there be 4,000 volunteers showing their willingness to turn up for a good cause? Perhaps Zambrero will introduce smaller, regional packing events throughout the year?

However next year shapes up, Plate 4 Plate will continue to have a profound impact on vulnerable communities. In fact, if you eat at your local Zambrero this December you may even get to witness another major milestone when the Plate 4 Plate meal counter hits 100,000,000 meals donated since the program kicked off.

Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate initiative stands as a powerful example of how a franchise business can mobilise its people around a purpose.
