The Coffee Club and dating site RSVP are combining forces to try and break a world record for speed dating. A free event on 1 May is expected to draw more than 2,000 people to take part at over 50 cafes across six states.

The aim is to beat the current world record of 1,240 speed-daters set in Sydney in 2008.

John Lazarou, director of The Coffee Club, said “WeÍre sure there have been thousands of dates in The Coffee Club caf_s over the years but now weÍve decided to lend a hand and help people across Australia to potentially find their perfect match. If youÍd like to find a new person in your life and share a coffee with, come on down to one of our speed-dating caf_s on the night and become part of a unique world record!”

The event is free to attend and participants will also be able to take advantage of a free coffee or cold beverage to enjoy during their dates.

Each date will last for five minutes and the event is expected to last for a total of 90 minutes. Participants will then all be registered as having broken a world record.
