SPAR closes doors on corporate store

Independent supermarket network SPAR Australia will close its Byron Bay corporate store because of difficult trading conditions and a decline in the tourism trade.

Chief executive Leigh Carson said After trading for seven months, this is extremely disappointing. But in a region that relies heavily on the tourism trade, the last seven months have been extremely challenging.

We do want to thank the team at Byron Bay who performed exceptionally well to provide customers with an outstanding retail offer, despite very difficult circumstances.

Carson said the region was still well represented with independently owned outlets at Suffolk Park, Lismore, Murwillumbah and Pottsville.

Byron Bay was our only corporate store and it will be the only closure. All the rest are owned independently, he confirmed.
