Royal Stacks’ general manager Nick Campese shares insights on the brand that’s scored iconic locations like the MCG.
How long has the business been trading?
Royal Stacks opened its first restaurant in Collins Street, Melbourne in 2016. With queues out the door we quickly opened our second restaurant in Brunswick shortly after. We are now fortunate enough to have 13 locations in Melbourne with several more soon to open. We have been franchising for about four years now with great success.
What does it cost to buy a franchise?
A Royal Stacks franchise can cost between $350,000 – $700,000 largely dependent on location.
What are the core areas of your company’s business?
Royal Stacks is a fast casual burger chain famous for not only our award winning burgers but our nostalgic and pop culture inspired restaurant experience. Stacks is the chef’s burger of choice and we pride ourselves on serving the highest quality American-inspired burgers. With the best burgers, fries and shakes coupled with the fun in-restaurant vibe, Stacks is the go-to hangout for many Melburnians.
Who is a typical customer and do you have any plans to reach a different demographic?
Our typical customer is someone who loves to treat themselves and is a bit of a foodie. Many office workers grab themselves a treat with their workmates for lunch. In the evenings, Stacks is a great hangout destination with mates where they might stay a little longer than they expected and grab a beer or cocktail with their burgers.
As we branch out to the burbs, we love to see many families come in. Our shakes are an absolute treat for kids.
What makes your brand stand out from the competition?
The moment you walk into a Stacks and hear banger tracks playing, artwork referencing nostalgic pop culture moments and your favourite arcade machine as a kid, you know you’re in for a fun time. Stacks is a place where people have a lot of fun and a laugh with friends.
Unlike other typical burger joints, Stacks uses fresh 100 per cent grass-fed Aussie beef, plus freshly-baked buns with a recipe that took many years to perfect. Our burgers are designed by chefs. Try one and you’ll see what all the fuss is about.
Why is this a good business to buy into?
Stacks’ growth significantly out-performs the market. Our average restaurant sales volume is extremely strong considering how young we are in our journey. We are a business with strong financial fundamentals coupled with a highly experienced franchise support office.
Which element of franchisee support is the most well received and why?
We pride ourselves on a high level of service with our franchise partners. It is of utmost importance that we see our franchise partners succeed. Our focus on strong restaurant systems allows franchise partners to succeed. We ensure we deliver the tools they need in order to operate a great business.
Our local area marketing support is the best in the market, assisting our franchise partners to embed themselves and their business in their local communities.
How many hours a week does a franchisee typically work?
Franchise partners will typically work in their business on a full-time basis when they establish their
franchise. We know the most successful franchise partners are those who work in their business to
develop strong teams.
What drives your growth strategy?
Stacks prides itself on being different. We are always on the lookout to innovate and challenge the status quo. We are unique and different. The excitement that this brings keeps our guests coming back time and time again.
What are your expansion plans for the next five years?
We are very proud to be a part of iconic landmarks such as our locations at the MCG and participating in events such as the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix. We pride ourselves on being Melbourne’s favourite burger destination and will continue to expand into metro and regional Victoria over the next few years!
Please share one exciting innovation/ development you have planned.
