KFC in court over salmonella claims

Fast food franchise chain KFC is being sued for just over $10 million by a Sydney girl. Monika Samaan claims she was poisoned by a contaminated product served at a Villawood KFC outlet.

The case is currently before the New South Wales Supreme Court and Samaan, who has developed spastic quadriplegia and a profound intellectual disability, attended the hearing in a wheelchair. KFC is accused of breaching the Trade Practices Act and its duty of care.

The prosecution alleges the product, a twister, gave Samaan salmonella poisoning and her disabilities are a result of this. After consuming the twister which she shared with family, she and her parents and brother became sick.

The hearing continues.
