Local NSW Member, John Sidoti, MP will open a new Gelatissimo gelataria in the Sydney suburb of Balmain on 14 December.
The new gelataria is headed by best friends and former mechanics Joe Diaz and Mario Fontana, and will offer the brand’s range of gelato flavours as well as coffee and biscotti.
Before they invested in Gelatissimo, the pair conducted extensive research into a number of different franchised brands.
“We wanted to invest in a franchise business because it offers many benefits,” said Mario.
“These include training, support, a proven product, a familiar brand and networking opportunities.”
Gelatissimo’s business model and product offering were major drawcards for Joe and Mario. “The dessert sector appealed to us because we wanted to have a business that makes everyone smile,” Mario said. “And Gelatissimo appealed most of all.”
“People come to motor mechanics because they have a problem that needs fixing, and this usually makes them unhappy,” added Joe.
“But with Gelatissimo, they come because they want to. Eating our delicious gelato makes people happy and they enjoy the experience.”
The quality of the brand’s product was also a deciding factor – they believe its gelato is unmatched because it is made fresh in-store daily.
Joe and Mario are confident the new store will complement Balmain’s already existing shops and dining spots. “I am really looking forward to connecting with the Balmain community and adding an Italian edge to the area’s renowned sense of style and flair,” said Joe.
“ I am looking forward to this exciting new career,” Mario added.
Gelatissimo’s acting CEO, Filipe Barbosa said the team at head office is similarly excited by the brand’s latest store opening.
“We are looking forward to bringing Gelatissimo to the people of Balmain so that they can enjoy our freshly made gelato and savour a small piece of Italy,” he said.
The pair will adopt a hands-on approach to their new careers and work in the store, meanwhile Joe’s wife Mingkwam will also lend a hand.
Customers who purchase a gelato product from the Balmain gelataria on opening day will receive a free upsize.
