Families make good franchisees at Battery World

Battery World has experienced a shift in franchisee demographics over recent years, with over half of the battery franchise’s 77 stores now being owned or operated by family teams.

Couples, brothers and parents and their children make up Battery World’s franchising team, and according to general manager, John Pascoe, the trend has continued this year with a 10 percent rise in the average number of enquiries from families and couples in the past six months alone.

“People are drawn to Battery World due to the familiarity and simplicity of battery retailing. Add to this our visible dedication to communities, our strong franchising system and support network and the enticing lifestyle prospects of starting a franchise with those you are closest to, and it’s easy to see why so many families are willing to jump on board,” he said.

Howdie Farrar, owner of Battery World Ipswich, agrees with Pascoe’s assumption. In 2009, he and his wife, Ruthie, left long-held positions in the armed forces to pursue a more stable and relaxed lifestyle. After careful consideration, the pair made the decision to start up a Battery World franchise and run it as equal partners.

“I can understand people would have reservations about going into business with those closest to them — but any couple or family can do it so long as they set boundaries and respect each other. That’s been the secret to our success, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he said.
