BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort has been awarded the title of top caravan and tourist park in Australia at the 2011 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Cairns.

The holiday resort is surrounded by four World Heritage National Parks, and its brand new water park, seasonally heated pool and indoor play centre helped the business scoop the award.

Owner operator, Ian Bedel, says the winning formula comes down to the staff. “I’m thrilled for the BIG4 North Star team; they’re very committed and passionate about providing the best holiday experience and for their hard work to be recognised this way is just fantastic”, he said.

“We’ve spent 30 years building a world class property with a team of superstars so it’s great to be recognised as an industry leader.”

Other BIG4 wins:

  • Australian Tourism silver award: Middleton Beach Holiday Park in Albany, WA
  • Australian Tourism bronze award: Queenscliff, Vic

The hat trick marks a big 12 months for the holiday park chain including a clean sweep at the 2011 State Tourism Awards held across the country throughout November. BIG4 Holiday Parks were recognised as the best in the sector, taking out the Caravan and Tourist Park category in each state.

The following parks were also recognised as 2011’s elite accommodation providers:

  • BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort (QLD)
  • BIG4 Adelaide Shores Caravan Park (SA)
  • BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park (TAS)
  • BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park (NT)

Within the group, owner operators are investing in water parks to give their venues an edge. Consumers can book online using their mobiles.
