Convenience franchise, 7-Eleven, has opened its 100th outlet since the acquisition of the Mobil retail fuels sites in October 2010, as well as its 500th 7-Eleven branded store, located in Dapto, NSW.
“Our 500th branded store opens almost 34 years to the day since the 7-Eleven store opened in Australia in 1977. That’s about an average of 15 7-Eleven stores per year; or more than one store per month,” said 7-Eleven chief executive officer, Warren Wilmot.
“A major boost to the growth of 7-Eleven Australia is the excellent progress we’ve made converting Mobil retail sites to 7-Eleven. We are now almost half way through the conversion process and we are on track to convert the majority of stores by December 2011,” he said.
Post conversion, stores have experience a lift in merchandise sales and profit, particularly in food service products such as “munch” and Slurpee.
“The customers at Dapto have been so thrilled that Slurpee is now available in their area that we’ve sold one Slurpee per minute between 10am and 10pm for the first week of trade and a massive 4.08 Slurpees per minute on the opening day between 10am and 10pm,” said Wilmot.
7-Eleven’s 100th converted store is in Rozelle, NSW.
