Tutor Doctor franchisee training

Tutor Doctor’s training program kick-starts franchisee success

Sarah Stowe

Starting a new business can be scary and overwhelming, but when you are part of a franchise like Tutor Doctor, brand new franchisees have a roadmap and a dedicated team to work with them to get started, and handle all the challenges of running a business from the start.

The Tutor Doctor foundational program is a prime example of how the global business helps franchisees set up for success and extends well beyond the business’s initial launch.

Online learning modules

Franchisees start their Tutor Doctor journey with a Welcome Call; this call is designed to outline the training stages and introduction to Tutor Doctor University, where the online self-passed component of pre-training takes place.

Pre-training consists of a series of comprehensive online learning modules that equip franchisees to establish their business, from finding and matching tutors with students to business management fundamentals.

This comprehensive, top quality program includes business setup, marketing, tutor recruitment, financial best practices, call answering, consultations and customer relationship management (CRM) training. Franchisees have the support of their assigned business coach throughout the process to address any questions along the way.

Fiorella Alva, senior manager of franchise development, says training is fundamental for the over 700 franchisees across 15 countries.

“Our pre-training  provides the foundation and is complemented by our eight days Home Office training, where we bring everything to practice; we reinforce the activities that will start building critical mass for the business with a combination of learning sessions and practical in-the-field sessions.”

Tutor Doctor franchisee Elizabeth Maranto says “I’d never owned a business before, so I really liked the checklist aspect of it. Having a home office and my coach really guided me step by step through what needed to happen. I would have definitely struggled and it would have taken me a lot longer to launch a business on my own.

“The way that the training was organised, virtually, even though we weren’t together; for me, that training cohort was really essential for me. Even though the training is over, we still ask each other questions all the time, and we are each other’s cheerleaders.”

Tutor Doctor’s franchisee training leads to success

Tutor Doctor is getting full marks for its program’s success. Franchisees book and conduct their first consultations and tutor interviews while still in training as a result of the lead generation activities they do as part of the program.

The international tutoring chain prides itself on its student/tutor matchmaking, to ensure a tailored learning program for each student based on their learning styles and education goals.

So of course, the franchisor provides training and guidelines on tutor recruitment activities, where to find tutors, how to interview candidates and how to hire the right tutors to deliver the level of service and support required by each student.

The franchisor also provides franchisees with material for tutor onboarding and orientation. Tutors can access a management system to organise their schedules and submit tutoring session reports.

A business coach works with franchisees from the beginning to support them in any way they need.

Dedicated support in first year

“Our Launch Support Program was designed to support year-one franchisees,” explains Fiorella. “A dedicated business coach supports a franchisee for the first 12 months of their business. This includes a unique goal-setting and review process where the coach meets with the franchisee every week. This helps franchisees stay accountable to their business goals to achieve financial success.”

Franchisees can continue working with a business coach after the first year; in fact, they are encouraged to do so.

Fiorella reveals that franchisees working with a business coach have seen, on average, 25 per cent year on-year growth.

Franchisees have plenty of opportunities to boost their learning as they continue to work and grow their business.

A weekly system-wide online seminar highlights in-network news for franchisees. The webinar also includes thought leadership and development presentations to support franchisees’ business development.

Tutor Doctor has developed the Customer Centric Consultation (3C) Performance Series. This is a robust coaching and training program that develops franchisees’ consultation and sales skills.

Once a month Tutor Doctor operates themed one-to-two-week workshops that bring a group of franchisees together to execute daily tasks.

Robust program motivates franchisees

“These boot camps bring energy and motivation to franchisees, making an immediate impact on their business,” says Fiorella.

“We run monthly regional calls and in-person roundtable meetings too, which allows our franchisees to connect regularly on a regional level.”

And every year, franchisees come together from around the globe to network, celebrate and develop, says Fiorella.

Tutor Doctor delivers dedicated support to ensure its dynamic, global network of franchisees optimise their opportunities – and in turn help students fulfil their potential. And it all starts with first class training.

Tutor Doctor delivers the perfect training program to set up franchisees for success.
