Tutor Doctor unlocks potential

Tutor Doctor’s customised model unlocks student potential

Tutoring is all about boosting confidence, building learning skills and improving a student’s understanding of their subject.

Tutor Doctor’s philosophy is that this is best achieved by delivering personalised tutoring, at the student’s home or online.

The global tutoring brand is a student-centric business, built around a customised response to individual student’s needs.

“At Tutor Doctor our primary focus is to provide customised, one-on-one attention, regardless of a student’s skill level or academic background. Every aspect of our service is personalised to the needs of our students and families,” says Fiorella Alva, senior manager, franchise development.

Tutor Doctor’s tailored approach unlocks potential

The tailored service starts from the very beginning of the association by matching students with tutors who can untap their potential.

“We get to understand the student’s unique needs through our complimentary consultation, and from there, we find a tutor that matches the student’s interests, learning style and personality,” she says.

“We believe that personalised tutoring is the key to unlocking a student’s full potential. Our approach is to understand each student’s unique learning style, strengths, and challenges and tailor our teaching methods accordingly.

“By doing so, we help students build the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed academically and in life.”

The personal approach allows tutors to identify knowledge gaps so they can develop a tailored learning plan. This ensures students have a solid understanding of fundamental concepts which prepares them for more advanced coursework.

“We tailor our teaching methods to suit their needs, whether they are struggling with a particular subject or seeking to improve their academic performance.”

Students struggling to keep up

While tutoring has been in demand for some years as parents seek to give their children the best learning opportunities, recent results suggest there is a greater need now for these services than pre-Covid.

Even though the pandemic has passed, the impact of education challenges faced during Covid is still casting a shadow.

Fiorella points out there was learning loss caused by the disrupted traditional modes of education. Many students are struggling to catch up with the curriculum.

A report released by the Productivity Commission reveals that Australian schoolkids are falling behind in their literacy and numeracy skills.

Last year’s NAPLAN results showed reading skills among year 9 boys across Australia was a concern. The tests showed 13.5 per cent did not meet the minimum reading standard while maths standards had slumped in year 5.

And it’s not just in Australia. A 2021 report by McKinsey found students were lagging behind in the US.

Support and motivation are crucial

Tutor Doctor’s solution to accelerating learning is based on providing academic support and building confidence and motivation in students.

Improving grades is an obvious sign of academic success, but it’s just one element. Tutor Doctor has an innovative X-Skills program which develops a student’s vital executive functioning skills.

A significant part of that is learning academic discipline. Tutors help students develop good study habits, time management, and organisation skills that set them up for 21st century life.

Fiorella says a customised tutoring style also develops a positive relationship between the tutor and the student. This is a bonus for the student as the relationship can be a valuable source of emotional support, guidance, and mentorship.

Tutor Doctor also helps franchisees unlock their potential

To deliver these exacting standards, Tutor Doctor has developed a robust training and support model for franchisees. New franchisees undergo foundational training through e-learning courses, online workshops, two-week live virtual training with the head office team, and a Launch Support Program.

“Our Launch Support Program was designed to support year-one franchisees,” explains Fiorella. “A dedicated business coach supports a franchisee for the first 12 months of their business. This includes a unique goal setting and review process. The coach meets with the franchisee weekly, helping franchisees stay accountable to their business goals to achieve financial success.

A local experience

“Our franchisees play a vital role in engaging with their local community. This can be done through local Facebook and parent groups, partnering with local businesses, involvement with schools and parent/teach events,” says Fiorella.

Franchisees of course work with local tutors across their communities.

“We look for franchisees who have the desire to make a difference in their community and the skills and drive to run a successful business.

“We look for franchisees with strong work ethics, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to exceptional customer service. These skills are essential for running a successful Tutor Doctor franchise,” says Fiorella.
