Six heritage trades brands that could be right for you

If you’re looking for a business that’s got some history to it, take a peek at these six legacy brands. Each one has been trading for at least 20 years, so there’s plenty of proof the model works.

For those with a big budget, Total Tools is a tradies’ dream. It’s a mega retail outlet just for the professional tool user, with 80 stores in the group along the eastern seaboard. The business started up in 1989 so it has plenty of trading history and it opened up to franchising 15 years ago.

Narellan Pools has been building and installing swimming pools for Aussies since 1972. This heritage family firm offers a different option to the maintenance and cleaning models in the pool market. Narellan Pools is celebrating its 50th year as a Western Sydney business with a rich legacy as a philanthropic, community-centred operation with a collaborative and supportive culture.

Appliance Tagging Services helps other organisations with health and safety compliance. It’s a family-owned business that’s celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. ATS offers a flexible model, giving franchisees access to a national client base. The franchisor provides both technical and business support from fully qualified expert electricians and safety professionals.

Heritage trades brands can offer franchisees experience and expertise gained over decades

Grip Guard has notched up 24 years in business, providing non-slip floor safety products, services and treatments. The firm trades across Australia and South East Asia, servicing residential, commercial, industrial and government organisations. Franchisees deliver services and advice that are helping to keep Aussie safe in their homes and work places.

Wet-Seal has a reputation for its waterproofing and sealing services, which started from a fibreglass canoe-building business. Wet-Seal began back in 1984 and has been protecting homes from water damage in wet areas like balconies and showers ever since. Franchisees deliver home services, and work with eco-friendly products.

Car ports, verandahs and outdoor spaces. That’s the brief at Spanline which claims it was the first to produce a fully-engineered, all steel patio roof. The business started out in 1985 with its Home Additions Building System, and has since expanded its range. Today it produces and installs products from skylight panels to opening roofs to glassed enclosures.

Franchising began back in 1993.
