One burrito every eight seconds at GYG giveaway

Guzman y Gomez in Westfield Bondi Junction had its hands full last week, churning out one burrito every eight seconds over nine hours, as part of a charity food giveaway.

Over 4,000 free meals were handed out at the Mexican franchise outlet on Thursday 18 October, when it pledged to donate $1 from every meal given out to the Mision Mexico children’s refuge, which is operated by an Australian couple in Tapachula, Mexico.

It was all hands-on deck with more than 25 kitchen staff serving up the burritos, three-quarters of which took no more than three minutes to prepare. With all burritos made fresh, not one took longer than five minutes to serve up.

Guzman y Gomez founder, Steven Marks said the turnout at Bondi was better than expected. “There was not a single moment in the nine hours of trading yesterday when we could see the back of the queue while greeting those at the front. We’re absolutely ecstatic to have had so many people come through our doors to enjoy our food and help to raise money for MisiÑn M_xico in the process,” he said.
