McDonald’s is looking to hire older Australians with hospitality experience as it is set to hire about 8,000 new staff in this coming months.

The fast-food franchise says it’s creating 15,000 jobs across the country as it improves its customer service approach to become more like a traditional restaurant.

The Create Your Taste overhaul, which allows customers to build their own burger by choosing each of their own ingredients, has launched in 450 outlets and the company expects to roll out the remainder of the new menu to most of its 940 Australian stores by the end of June.

New employees are required for front-of-house duties and kitchen roles, as the fast-food franchise has said it is hiring five people per hour to keep up with the demand.

McDonald’s Australia chief operating officer (COO) Shaun Ruming said in an article for news.com.au that 7,000 staff had already been hired since the beginning of 2015, with an additional 8,000 expected in the coming months.

“It’s fantastic news for us, we’re extremely proud to be announcing 15,000 new jobs across our restaurants for 2015,” Ruming said.

“On the back of this job creation we’ve also just reached our 100,000th employee in Australia.

“We are very pleased to say that we now employ more than 100,000 Australians, but what is more pleasing is to be able to offer so many more young people the opportunity to start their working lives with McDonald’s.”

While McDonald’s global operations have been struggling recently with declining sales, the company has singled out its Australian network as a strong performer.
