IGA adds revenue support to Special Olympics Australia

IGA supermarkets has boosted its support of Special Olympics Australia with the addition of revenue from new IGA Signature products.

The 1,300 IGA supermarkets have given $770,000 since 2001 to the Special Olympics, a not-for-profit organisation that provides year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with an intellectual disability.

Using a successful cause-related marketing program within its network of independently owned supermarkets, a percentage from the purchase of IGAÍs Special Olympics branded products is donated to the Special Olympics and with the inclusion of IGAÍs new Signature range, there are now 200 products in the line-up.

The Special Olympics operates in more than 250 clubs in communities across Australia, and with the help of IGA, has been able to increase the program from six official sports to 14, plus other recreational activities.

Special Olympics Australia has also been able to fund training and competition at local, state, national and international events, including the National Games in Adelaide 2010 and the World Games in Athens, Greece 2011.
