How Jim’s Group is encouraging family fun at the Yarra Valley Cup

A fun day at the races is set to spread the word that the Jim’s Group is so much more than its iconic and well-loved mowing business.

At the Yarra Valley Cup on Sunday 16 March Jim’s Group will host a mega family day with free entry for the public.

Rocky Aloi, Jim’s Group chief operating officer, says the Jim’s Group Trade Show and Family Day is an opportunity for a fun day out. The event will feature free carnival rides and entertainment, fashions on the field, giveaways, and a variety of food trucks catering to all tastes and budgets.

It will also showcase the 50+ divisions in the Jim’s business, giving Aussies a taste of all the services, and the diverse ways they can become their own bosses.

“We have more than 5,500 franchisees over 50+ divisions. This is an opportunity to show what else we do and to make sure our franchisees get good exposure,” Rocky says.

The recently relaunched divisions garage doors, plumbing, roofing and hazmat will all be on show.

“Jim’s Group used to do an annual mowing trade day, from about 2010. When I started in 2018 I extended the concept to all the divisions. We had a huge success in 2019 with our first event, at our headquarters,” Rocky says.

About 3,000 people attended, and there was overwhelmingly positive feedback from the franchisees and the sponsor brands.

When the event was elevated to the much larger Melbourne Showground in 2023 the size of the venue and chilly weather meant it didn’t achieve the same family-feel.

Jim’s Group Trade Show and Family Day includes prizes and giveaways

Now the event is back with all the community spirit and energy of a country race, and the Jim’s Group is expecting up to 10,000 visitors.

As a major sponsor of the Yarra Valley Cup, Jim’s is filling the space around the race track with about 70 stands, including its own branded booth where visitors can find out more about Jim’s opportunities and discover all the services they can tap into as consumers.

The event is also a brilliant way for the franchise group to support its preferred suppliers.

Visitors who visit each stand and use the QR code to register will automatically enter all the prize draws. With prizes valued at $500 to several thousand dollars, adding up to more than $100,000 across the day, some lucky visitors will go home with raffle prizes or auction items provided by Jim’s Group’s major sponsors including Bosch, Stihl, Ezidebit and IT provider MYOB.

The Jim’s Group also works with a host of business-supporting brands such as vehicle manufacturers, finance and business networking companies, and uniform suppliers.

“As part of their sponsorship packages they must provide a giveaway to percentage value of their stands,” Rocky explains.

“Everyone at the race day has something they offer the franchise network,” he says. While the public won’t benefit from the robust discounts these firms provide Jim’s franchisees, they will enjoy special deals on the day.”

The Jim’s Group has partnered with Yarra Valley Racing to provide free entry for visitors

Jim’s Group invites everyone who has enquired about a franchise over the last five years to come along and see the brand progression and opportunities with this services-oriented company.

“As part of our commitment to the Yarra Valley Racing sponsorship package, Jim’s will pay entry for every person,” explains Rocky. “We want about 10,000 people there, including our invited visitors.”

Rocky points to the family focus and work-life balance that infuses the Jim’s Group.

“We want families to have some fun for free, it resonates with us and our franchisees,” he says.

“This is a great day with a real buzz. People are having fun, enjoying a day out for free, and winning prizes,” he says.

“Even if visitors want to just come for the fun, and the races, we’d love to see them,” he adds.
