Domino’s Pizza has announced that it will close all of its Australian stores for one hour on 9 March to implement specialised training.

The training will allow the company to effectively roll-out its new ‘game changing’ initiative, which is set to launch on 11 March.

Don Meij, CEO, Domino’s said the closure signals the beginning of something big.

“What we are planning and training for is the biggest initiative we’ve launched in years and in order for us to meet this challenge, set the bar high and get it right – this closure needs to take place,” he said.

He also explained the closure and new initiative reflect the company’s aim to satisfy the needs and wants of the Domino’s Pizza customer.

“Customers have told us they want more from us, and we’ve listened. In order to deliver on this we are committed to closing all stores across Australia on Saturday 9 March and prove to our customers we are serious about providing the best quality, service and standards in all our stores.

“Let’s just say, all will be revealed in the coming weeks,” he said.

Andrew Rennie, chief operating officer, Domino’s agreed with Meij, explaining the closure will be a big move for the company.

“Considering a lot of our stores are open on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and all public holidays throughout the year, this is a huge move for us, but one we are confident will help us reconnect with our customers as we continue to reinvigorate the way we sell and make pizzas,” he said.

He said the one hour training session will see staff focus on improving product quality and customer service.

“During the closure the primary focus will be on improving the quality of our products, all aspects of the customer service experience and our overall image because it’s important we set the bar high and not rest on our laurels.

“We are constantly listening to our customers and helping to prepare our staff for what is coming which is set to revolutionise the Australian pizza industry,” he said.

All of the company’s stores will be closed for one hour between 10am and 11am.
