Billy Slater sets up children’s sports franchise Billy’s Buddies

Sarah Stowe

Billy Slater, the fullback for the Queensland Maroons, Australia and the Melbourne Storm, has established a non-contact rugby league ball skills program for young children, branded as Billy’s Buddies.

According to the Asia-Pacific Centre for Franchising Excellence, the program is designed personally by Slater and aims to teach children aged two to six hand-eye coordination and ball skills.

He has developed a franchise system for the Billy’s Buddies program and is actively promoting franchisee opportunities in the group. According to the website, the program has a growing footprint in south east Queensland, providing programs for more than 1,500 children a week

Franchisees are said to benefit from start-up training and support, group buying power for apparel and gear, and a low overheads and operating costs model.
