Franchise convenience store network 7-Eleven has launched two pilot food stores in Melbourne and Sydney and plans to roll out the new food focused concept across all 7-Eleven stores.

The new pilot stores will offer a comprehensive range of 45 new freshly prepared food products developed from market trends and insights. The new range includes a hot breakfast menu with bacon and egg muffins, ham and cheese croissants and toasted sandwiches (all cooked to order).

Hot lunch options include focaccia, piadinas, pizza slices and soups alongside seasonal salads. Trained food service staff will be employed to prepare and serve the range of hot food to CBD customers.

7-Eleven has also teamed up with internationally-renowned coffee producer Lavazza to offer barista-made coffee within the two concept stores.

CEO of 7-Eleven Stores Australia, Warren Wilmot, is excited by the new venture. “As people are becoming increasingly busy, working longer and more irregular hours, weÍve seen an increase in customers opting for on-the-go food and drink. Each of the two concept stores has been developed to meet this need. By launching in high foot-traffic CBD locations, thereÍll be plenty of passing customers to road test the offering,” Wilmot said.

“Following the success of our Munch range this is the next step on our journey to provide customers with a delicious, great value food offer within the convenience format. We plan to leverage our position as a major branded chain to deliver a consistent, great quality food offer across our total store network.”

The Melbourne store opened in August with the Sydney site scheduled to begin trade in early October 2009. Located at 190 Bourke St in Melbourne and 466 George St in Sydney, the two food concept 7-Eleven stores have been redesigned to create a warm and inviting environment that is quick and easy for busy customers to navigate.

The concept sites were selected to build on 7-ElevenÍs existing store network. They will be managed by existing franchisees and operate under 7-ElevenÍs existing franchise model.
