A new report on how brands can best engage with social media users reveals Australians are happy to connect with brands, but demand more than special offers and competitions to keep their interest.

According to the survey, 82 percent of Australian social media users connect with brands; 30 percent are looking for discounts, 28 percent are seeking information, 24 percent want assistance, 33 percent are giving feedback, and 23 percent are using social media to make a complaint.

B&T reported the survey also indicated brands need to consider the role of social meda in communicating trends and new products, and product sales or services.

However 44 percent of respondents will happily ditch a brand that isn’t meeting their expectations.

Kristen Boschma, general manager of Aegis Media’s The Social Hatch, one of the partners in the survey said “People are getting seriously annoyed with brands behaving badly on social media and they do not hesitate im dumping them if they are not meeting their communications needs.”
